The Return

Hi folks,

Golly, it has been forever since this page has received any care. Unfortunately, I may have broken the internet in an attempt class up this joint... goes to show we might be better off lighting them up.
Anyways, we're finally playing a show. We are privileged to share the floor with our good pals Scab Smoker and Wolbachia.
All of the info you need is in the shows section, as well as that little box to yer left called 'Next Show', brilliant, eh?  Its at WAR ON MUSIC, starts at 9:30, over by Midnight. We're playing first and will be droppin' some new tunes.

Instead of reading this, perhaps spend sometime checking this out.

Break time

Howdy folks,

Just a quick update for the handful of you that are not in our mighty band of failures. First off, we would like to thank the folks at Mount Elgon Productions, Head Hits Concrete, Haggatha, and Tu Sufres for allowing us the pleasure and honour of sharing the stage with them a couple of weeks ago. We've been spoiled with a number of great opportunities to play with some seriously incredible bands from Winnipeg and afar. On that note, big thanks to Sarah and Brandon (other roommates who I may not know of) for throwing a pretty fucking killer after party. Its a pretty special feeling to see the majority of the performing sitting around sharing stories, drinks, and the occasional smoke.

All of the bands were fabulous. Tu Sufres loves grindcore, and the people love Tu Sufres! I was unable to catch most of their set, but what I did manage to hear and see was brilliant. Heck, they even have a song called "Deaden + Forest + Mushrooms = Sauteed". Pretty damn funny and entirely too accurate. They laid down about 10 more tracks after that opener in about 15 minutes. Fast, brutal, and committed.

Next up was East Van's HAGGATHA. Once again, absolutely crushing. This time coupled with the sound of the albert they were somthing special. They played a different set from the last time they were in, it was noticeably quicker in pace for the first few songs and then slowed right on down. More ceiling fell from the skies, I like to think its from the intensity rather than their sheer volume, but its likely both!

Winnipeg grind legends HEAD HITS CONCRETE capped off the night. I'm not even sure how to comment on their set. It was inspiring, mind blowing in that techy kind of way, and laden with an emotional fierceness that I have not personally felt in a really long time. What a great band to catch before jumping in to our next step..

segue!

Deaden is recharging the battery for the next little while and then we're going to be spending a long time in the jam space writing some new material. We're not sure when you will hear from us again, but we can promise you fine folks that if/when you do that we will have some new tunes for you. We're all really excited to get to jamming again, working on some new stuff and getting back in to the rhythm of things.

We've fiiiiinally got the black mould demo cassette up on the interwebs. Its a free download, please do listen and enjoy!

Foul Copse

Deaden would like to thank Sarah F. for doing such a wonderful job organizing Foul Copse Festival #1. We hope that it is the first of many to come in the future, it was like fucking paradise for drunken fans of brutal aggressive music. No reviews this time around, as I simply just have the vocabulary to review 12 bands without getting boring.

I will comment on one thing though, and let this be a lesson to all you kids out there. Drugs and booze before you play.. well, probably not the greatest idea. Half hearted apologies from the "adam's".

Wine and beer 1, zoomers 2, adam and adam -4, deaden - 1. Sorry guys!

I will be posting some pictures of us sometime this evening or tomorrow.

We would also like a bid our collective 'see ya later' to our pal 'screech owl' of GRIMHORSE. We hope your seasons away bring you back refreshed and ready riff hard. Thanks for playing that new one, and giving this fucking city something to look forward to.

some updates

Hi everyone, and by everyone, I do realize that I am likely only really addressing a couple members of the band. In any case, we have added some pictures and a video clip from our show with Grim Horse, Willing Feet, and Scab Smoker. This show was originally scheduled for the end of june, and after having a number of different homes and dates fall through it finally came together at War On Music. It was well worth the wait.

Grim Horse opened the evening off with 15-20 minutes of hellfire and glorious doom. They immediately have become Winnipeg's premiere doom band, and thats not just because they are the only one! They have something special about them. Creating an atmosphere of complete gloom, desolation, and tension. At times the tension felt as if it flirted with enough grim desperation to completely sever all ties within in this plane of existence. I felt the hand's of hell clutching at my ankle a few times to drag me below. This band gave me chills, we are really looking forward to playing with them again in the near future. This five piece has a new home in my grimmest heart of hearts.

Willing Feet promptly took over the floor of War On Music for their first show as well and proceeded to earn a spot right beside Grim Horse as my new favourite band. They are of substantial contrast to Grim Horse, but we're a very fitting follow up to them as well. I am struggling to find a point of reference for some reason, but it was ultra raw, fast, hardcore with some black metal tones. I won't waste time with comparisons, however, I will highly recommend you go see this three piece as soon as you can.

Up next was Deaden and they rocked the house with some weird hybrid of dub step and latvijan folk music. Ridiculous and not worth watching.

Scab Smoker closed out the night with a slimy ass set of stoner metal. i felt like i had a severe peyote deficiency... as if the floor needed more creatures under the hot sands to stick their sharp and venomous bite deep in to calf. they played a hell of show. sweaty, sludgey, groovy as hell, and well worth the wait for folks who stuck around for the entire show. check out their link in our links page.

In other news, we will have this fucking recording up as soon as we can. In the mean time, you can take a look at two minute sample from our set. The song being played is called 'doomed to live', you get to see the last minute five of the ten minute hellride. Its at the bottom of the links page, thank you to Kelse Middleton for capturing it, along with the pictures in the images section.

Up next is the secret forest show. we still don't know where it is yet, but if you get in touch over the next few days we will likely have that information.

Oh yeah

this stuff is lame, but why not add it, right?

How it all went down!

This is the second time this particular group of gentlemen has taken a crack at working together. A number of years ago, 'Bad Adam', Scott, and Dan were in a band called knife in my back. At some point 'good adam' was invited to play second guitar with them, however it did not work out, and soon after the band called it quits.

Skip forward to the spring of 2009, the members of knife in my back re-unite after a four or five year split. Needing a bass player, and more sex appeal, they ask 'good adam' to join. And the rest, as they say, "is history".

We had been practicing for the better part of a year before deciding we were show ready. In the spring of 2010, we released the 'black mould' demo and played our first show at war on music. A Mount Elgon production featuring Rusted Dawn (Fredericton) and Everyone's Fired. It went well, it went really fucking well. Two weeks later, we played another MG production at WOM that featured a hot shit local line up of: Flash Out, Erica and Alana = poo, and Noose.

As time and shows go on, we will add to the past shows posts. More so to archive it for the band than anything else, we're all kind of nerdy sentimental fucks, eh?

Members of deaden have also played/or are playing in the following bands: end times, the ultra secret, knife in my back, dead dogs, perdu, this time i'm god, BSY, kato, and probably some more.

Hi Everyone

After some debate, we have decided to join the electronic world and have some of our happenings available to people threw the internet. This blog will act as an avenue for us to tell you what the fuck is going in our little world. When shows are happening, if/when we're heading in to the studio to record. Hell, we'll even remind you that we have a few of our demo cassettes left. Occasionally, one of us might jump on here to go on a little rant. It could be about how fucking killer Rush (sometimes I just need to put Limelight on repeat) is, or perhaps a rant about the importance of self-care, counting on your friends when you need to, and getting down right fucking evil when its appropriate to do so (... yes there are times when some restraint should be considered)!
In any case, we are not likely to update this unless we feel there is a need to do so.

We will have links to a couple our demo tracks very soon, as well as an update listing when and where we are playing next.

Check out 'about deaden' for a brief history of the band. Its fucking awesome, seriously.

'good' adam. deaden.
